If your little one has loved participating in a parented music class, an unparented music & movement class such as the Fledglings Program offered by our studio is the perfect next step! These classes offer preschool aged children (3-6) the opportunity to develop independence, social skills, and confidence while continuing to explore music in a fun and engaging environment.

Building on the Foundations of Parent & Child Classes: In our parented Nestlings classes, children begin their musical journey with the comfort and security of a caregiver by their side. They engage in songs, rhythm play, and movement activities while learning to follow directions and participate in a group. As they grow, they become ready for the next challenge—practising these skills independently in a structured, supportive setting.

A Structured, Playful Approach to Learning: Our unparented music & movement classes are designed specifically for ages 3-6, for kids who are ready to spread their wings! Each session follows a familiar routine, which helps children feel comfortable and confident as they transition into learning without a caregiver present. We focus on:

• Repetition & Routine: Songs and activities are repeated weekly so children can master skills and gain confidence.
• Leadership & Turn-Taking: Each child has opportunities to be a leader such as demonstrating an action or leading a rhythm game.
• Games & Movement: From freeze dance to parachute play, we keep things active and engaging while reinforcing musical concepts.
• Listening & Focus: Musical activities help children practice taking turns, following multi-step instructions, and respond to musical cues.
• Instrument Exploration: Kids get hands-on experience with rhythm instruments, shakers, scarves, and more!

The Benefits of an Unparented Music Class Participating in an unparented class helps children build independence while still having fun! It fosters:

• Confidence as they try new things on their own.
• Social skills through group activities, partner songs, and turn-taking games.
• Listening and attention as they follow the teacher’s instructions and musical cues.
• Creativity and self-expression through movement, singing, and imaginative play.

By the end of a session, children feel a real sense of accomplishment—and parents often notice growth in their ability to listen, follow directions, and participate in group activities outside of class too!

It’s also great for parents too – it’s the perfect opportunity for busy moms and dads to sneak away to pick up some groceries, enjoy a coffee in peace, or go for a walk in a nearby park! We all know how important it is for parents to have some recharge time for themselves!
