Hi, I’m Christina, Owner and Director of Freebird Music Studios!
My name is Christina Free, and I’m passionate about making, performing, and teaching all things music! I’ve been playing the piano since I was 4, the violin since I was 5, and I started singing even earlier than that! With nearly 30 years of experience in violin, piano, and voice, I’ve spent over a decade teaching private and group music lessons to students of all ages—from infants to kids, teenagers and adults.

I was inspired to create an early childhood music program for babies after the birth of my first son. Experiencing the joy of playing music for and with my own child—and seeing his incredible engagement at such a young age—sparked the idea to start a program specifically for babies and young children. Music has always been my passion, and my goal is to help families discover and nurture a love of music together.
Having studied the many benefits of music on a baby’s brain development, I felt a strong desire to share my knowledge and skills with other parents—so they, too, could experience the joy and developmental advantages that music brings to early childhood.
Every class I teach brings me so much joy. Sharing my love of music with families in my community is incredibly rewarding, and I’m endlessly grateful to witness the power of music in a child’s development firsthand.
About my Musical Background
Most of my musical training took place at the Academy at Mount Royal University—a program designed for young, gifted musicians. There, I received intensive instruction in violin performance, chamber music, theory, and orchestral studies. I even had the privilege of playing for world-renowned violinists, including Itzhak Perlman. I undertook studies in piano at the same time up an ultimately completed RCM grade 10 in both instruments.
I am a former member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra, several chamber ensembles, and the Mount Allison University Chamber Orchestra. I have also performed as a soloist at numerous events and fundraisers in Calgary.

In addition to violin, I am a trained vocalist with over 10 years of professional vocal instruction, having studied under Dawn Johnson at Mount Royal University and Dr. Monette Gould at Mount Allison University. I was a longtime member of the Calgary Girls Choir under Elaine Quilichini, and I currently sing with the ConocoPhillips Choir and the a cappella group ViaVoci.
Beyond music, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Mathematics from Mount Allison University, as well as a Master’s degree in Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto.
